# CNS2035 - Elvis Presley "Don't Cry Daddy" US Half Dollar Commemorative Coin
Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Don’t Cry Daddy
The song “Don’t Cry Daddy” was written by Scott Davis, better known as Mac Davis, who wrote a number of hits for Elvis and had a successful singing career of his own. Presley recorded this hit in January 1969. During one session, the rhythm track was completed. Elvis’s vocals were added about a week later.
The song is sung from the viewpoint of a husband and father whose wife is gone. Though he cries at night, he tries to be brave in front of his two children. One child encourages the Daddy to laugh and play with them like he used to and encourages him that they’ll find a new mommy soon.
After the record was released, it reached #6 on the American pop charts. It was also a hit in the UK. The following year, Elvis recorded a live version during a Las Vegas show. Later the same year, he was performing at the International Hotel when he recorded a medley of “Don’t Cry Daddy” and “In the Ghetto.”
The song was given new life when Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley performed a virtual duet with her father. The video was made for a 1997 tribute concert marking the 20th anniversary of Elvis’ death. The performance was a fitting commemoration to the King of Rock and Roll, given by someone who knew him best.
