# CNS2027 - Elvis Presley "Good Luck Charm" US Half Dollar Commemorative Coin
Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Good Luck Charm
This coin pays tribute to the 1962 hit “Good Luck Charm.” It was released in February and topped the charts the week of April 21.
The song was recorded at RCA studios in Nashville on the night of October 15, 1961. As in many previous songs, Scotty Moore was on guitar and the Jordanaires provided backup vocals. It took four takes to perfect the song. The flip side song, “Anything That’s Part of You,” was recorded the same evening.
“Good Luck Charm” met with positive reviews. Variety magazine said the song “can be chalked up as a certain money-making slice.” Billboard magazine called the song “a bright, medium tempo rocker, featuring enthusiastic reading by the star and the Jordanaires.” The future hit entered Billboard’s Hot 100 during the week of March 17. Just five weeks later it took over the number one spot. “Good Luck Charm” remained on the chart for 13 weeks.
Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold were the songwriters behind this Elvis hit. After “Good Luck Charm” was released, it was the center of a court battle between the songwriters and Elvis’s publishing company, Gladys Music. In the past, songwriters had signed over their rights to every song Presley recorded. This time, Schroeder and Gold refused to sign the contract. Because of the lawsuit, the team never wrote another song for Presley.
