Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
I Need Your Love Tonight
Elvis recorded the song “I Need Your Love Tonight” while he was on leave from the Army. He completed basic training at Fort Hood and returned to Memphis to spend some time with family and friends. During that time, Presley carved out some time to go to a recording studio in Nashville. “I Need Your Love Tonight” was one of the songs recorded at the time. It reached number four on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1959.
One of the writers of this popular song was Sid Wayne. He was the creative talent behind many songs in Elvis’ movies. Wayne grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and had no formal music training. After moving to Hollywood, he began writing songs for Elvis. Wayne’s songs can be heard in “G.I. Blues,” “It Happened at the World’s Fair,” “Clambake,” and many more films. Wayne was later nominated for a Grammy for the lyrics to the Perry Como hit “It’s Impossible.”
