Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever!  This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.

Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

(You’re the) Devil in Disguise

Elvis recorded “(You’re the) Devil in Disguise” during a marathon session which took place May 26-27, 1963. It was one of fourteen songs recorded at this time.

The flipside chosen for the single was “Please Don’t Drag That String Around.” The record was released in June and reached number three on the Billboard singles chart by August. It also became a number one hit in the UK, Japan, France, and other countries. The song was certified Gold when sales exceeded 500,000 units in the United States.

The song begins as a ballad of a boy telling his girlfriend that she’s like an angel. The rhythm changes quickly to rock & roll, as the song’s title is sung. The speed changes often in the song, keeping the interest of the listener.

“Devil in Disguise” was written by Bill Giant, Bernie Baum, and Florence Kaye. It was the most popular song they wrote for Presley. Many of the songs they wrote for the superstar were used in his movies.

This song was Elvis Presley’s biggest hit of 1963. It would also be his last newly-recorded song to reach the top five until 1968.
