Elvis recorded “I Got Stung” during a Nashville session on June 11, 1958. He had been drafted into the Army and was preparing to be stationed in Germany. This song was the last one the star recorded in the 1950s.
The single was released on October 21, 1958. The song on the flip side was “One Night.” “I Got Stung” had catchy lyrics about Elvis being “stung by a sweet honey bee.” At under two minutes, it was a short song with a lot of lyrics packed into its up-tempo rhythm.
This hit was written by Aaron Schroeder and David Hill. Schroeder wrote more than 500 songs in his career, including 17 for Elvis. Five of those Presley songs reached #1 on the charts.
Though Elvis was a huge star in his time, his songs are timeless. In 2005, this song was re-released in the United Kingdom and reached #1 on the charts again, almost 50 years later.
