Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever!  This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.

Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

My Way

Elvis first recorded “My Way,” on June 10, 1971, in RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. However, this version wasn’t released until 1995. He also sang the song on January 12 and 14, 1973, during his Aloha from Hawaii satellite show. The performance was broadcast live to 43 countries, the first time a single entertainer performed for such a large audience.

Fellow performer Paul Anka warned Elvis not to sing the song, claiming that it wouldn’t suit him. In spite of this, Elvis continued to sing the song throughout the rest of his career.

The tune was written for a French song by Gilles Thibault, Claude Francois, and Jacques Revaux. Anka wrote the English lyrics. Prior to Elvis’ version most American listeners associated the tune with Anka, Frank Sinatra, and Brook Benton.

Released with “America the Beautiful” on the flip side, Elvis’ version of the powerful song spent 12 weeks on the Billboard charts and peaked at number 21. Weeks after his death in 1977, Elvis’ live recording of “My Way” for the Elvis in Concert TV special was released as a single. It reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 (higher than Sinatra’s peak position), number six on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and received a gold record for selling over half a million copies. The next year, it reached number two on the Country chart.
