# CNS16017 - Elvis Presley Gold "Crying in the Chapel" US Half Dollar Commemorative Coin
Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Crying in the Chapel
Elvis recorded “Crying In The Chapel” on October 31, 1960. The extraordinary session featured an incomparable list of recording artists, including Floyd Cramer (piano), Boots Randolph (sax), Scotty Moore and Hank Garland (on guitars along with Elvis), and the Jordonaires (backup vocals). The song, originally recorded for the gospel album His Hand in Mine, was released instead in 1965 as the “Easter Special” single.
Although many other artists recorded the tune – Jim Nabors, Aaron Neville, The Platters, B.J. Thomas, and Tammy Wynette and even former girlfriend Anita Wood – only Elvis took the song to #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. “Crying In The Chapel” spent 14 weeks on the charts in 1965 with “I Believe in the Man in the Sky” on its flip side. This song was his most successful over a six-year period, and over one million singles were sold.
