(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

The team of Kal Mann and Bernie Lowe wrote “Teddy Bear” for Presley’s second film, Loving You.  Kal Mann broke into the entertainment business in the 1940s and ‘50s as a comedy writer for Danny Thomas, the star of the hit television show “Make Room For Daddy.”

Elvis recorded the song on January 24, 1957.  “Teddy Bear” sold one million copies in the first week and hit #1 on Billboard’s Pop, Country, and Rhythm and Blues charts.  The song was one of four number-one hits Elvis had that year.  Teenage fans across the globe sent teddy bears to Elvis, which he donated to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, an organization dedicated to wiping out polio.
