Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Last Pre-Army Conference
This coin commemorates Elvis’ last major concert before joining the Army. He and the band had arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii, on November 9, 1957, and played two shows at the Honolulu Stadium on the 10th. Then, on November 11, Armistice Day, they performed at the Conroy Bowl at Schofield Barracks. It would be the last concert Bill Black played with the band in the 1950s.
No ads were run for the concert, but flyers were hung around the base. Still, some 10,000 civilians and military personnel attended the show, paying $1 per ticket. Opening acts included the Barracks’ own Lucky Charms and Lightningaires Band (named for the 25th Infantry Division).
After the concert, about 200 teenagers attempted to sneak into Elvis’ 14th-floor hotel room. Though they were unsuccessful, he later went down to the beach to sign autographs and chat with his fans. Elvis returned home to Memphis the next day, and within a month received his draft notice for the Army, bringing his concert career to a halt for over two years.
