Shower of Stars Benefit

Elvis appeared at the 1957 Shower of Stars Benefit. The benefit, though it wouldn’t officially be named for several years, was first held in 1955 to help raise money to build St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Elvis performed with a number of other stars including Jane Russell, Susan Hayward, Ferlin Huskey, Lou Costello, and Roberta Sherwood. Despite the threat of rain, the skies stayed clear for the show. According to one local paper, “Rain predicted, but never fear, Danny’s [Thomas, founder of St. Jude] here.”
