Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Shower of Stars Benefit
Elvis appeared at the 1957 Shower of Stars Benefit. The benefit, though it wouldn’t officially be named for several years, was first held in 1955 to help raise money to build St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Two years later, Elvis took the stage at the second benefit before 11,000 people. Elvis performed with a number of other stars including Jane Russell, Susan Hayward, Ferlin Huskey, Lou Costello, and Roberta Sherwood. Despite the threat of rain, the skies stayed clear for the show. According to one local paper, “Rain predicted, but never fear, Danny’s [Thomas, founder of St. Jude] here.”
