Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  As a real Elvis fan, you love capturing your favorite historic moments from the life of the original American idol.  This coin preserves one of your favorite Elvis memories

Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Elvis Receives his First Guitar

Elvis’ first guitar, as the story goes, was a gift from his mother, Gladys, for his 11th birthday in 1946.  It was purchased at the Tupelo Hardware store, reportedly where Elvis had picked out a gun that his mother thought would be too dangerous.  No one knows for sure what happened to the guitar that started the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll down the road to stardom, but it’s not with the rest of the collection at Graceland.

What is known is that Elvis bought a used Martin 000-18 guitar for $79.50 sometime after August 1954 with $5 down and $10-a-month time payments.  This was the guitar he used in his first “Louisiana Hayride” show in October of that year.  By November, however, he had traded it for a Martin D-18, costing $175, a sign he was quickly moving up in the music world.

In 1956, Elvis bought a Gibson J200.  He used this guitar in concerts, recording sessions, and in the movies Loving You, King Creole, and Wild in the Country.  Drafted into the Army in 1958, Elvis returned to the US in 1960 and once again began performing, using his refurbished Gibson J200.  With a new, black pick guard and boasting a modern design and his name inlaid (no more stick-on letters) on the fingerboard, Elvis continued to use this guitar, reportedly his “favorite,” for the rest of his life.
