Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  As a real Elvis fan, you love capturing your favorite historic moments from the life of the original American idol.  This coin preserves one of your favorite Elvis memories

Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Love Me Tender

Elvis was riding his meteoric rise to fame when filming began on Love Me Tender.  Perhaps that’s why it’s the only movie in which Elvis didn’t enjoy top billing.  However, few people today could name even one other actor or actress in the Western film.  Elvis earned a salary of $100,000 – equal to nearly $1,000,000 today.

Just 21 years old, Elvis’ appeal was so strong that the very name of the film was changed from “The Reno Brothers” to “Love Me Tender” so that the hit song would attract viewers.  In fact, before the movie came out, the song sold over a million copies, which was a first for a single song.

Set during the American Civil War, Love Me Tender tells the story of Clint Reno (Presley) and his brother Vance.  When the Reno family receives word that Vance died in the war, Clint develops a relationship with his brother’s old girlfriend and marries her.  After some time, Vance returns home and eventually accepts their relationship.  However, Vance gets involved in a train robbery, and ends up in a fatal gunfight with his brother.

When Elvis’ mother saw her son die in the film, it upset her so much that Elvis told Colonel Parker that he never wanted to be killed in another movie again – and he never was.

Love Me Tender premiered at the Paramount Theater in New York City.  The single “Love Me Tender” shattered existing records when it became the first song in history to achieve advance sales of over 1 million copies.
