This set includes the five quarters issued as part of the popular 50 States Program, with different states featured on the reverse (tails) side of the Washinton quarter. The states were honored in the order they joined the Union.
Proof coin sets are produced by the US mint in San Francisco using a process that brings out the beauty of each coin’s design. The dies and planchets (the metal disks that will become coins) are polished before the coin is struck. This gives the fields (blank areas) a mirrored look and the image a frosted effect. Proof coins are struck twice, giving the coin a sharper design and rims. The proof sets are packaged at the mint and display America’s coins at their best. Each set is only produced for one year, so the supply is limited.
