Get this 1978 Proof Coin Set –
Includes Final Eisenhower Dollar

This set contains six proof coins manufactured at the San Francisco Mint.  The small “S” mintmark can be found on each coin.  The Eisenhower dollar was first issued in 1971.  By 1978, it had become clear this coin was too large, and it would be replaced by the smaller Susan B. Anthony Dollar the following year.

Proof coin sets are produced by the US mint in San Francisco using a process that brings out the beauty of each coin’s design.  The dies and planchets (the metal disks that will become coins) are polished before the coin is struck.  This gives the fields (blank areas) a mirrored look and the image a frosted effect.  Proof coins are struck twice, giving the coin a sharper design and rims.  The proof sets are packaged at the mint and display America’s coins at their best.  Each set is only produced for one year, so the supply is limited.

This set contains these Proof coins:

1 Eisenhower Dollar

1 Kennedy Half Dollar

1 Washington Quarter

1 Roosevelt Dime

1 Jefferson Nickel

1 Lincoln Cent

The 1978 Proof Set deserves a home equal to the coins’ beauty.  The strong plastic display case is just that home.  The coins are sealed in the attractive case to keep dust, fingerprints, and moisture away from dulling the brilliant finish of these Proof coins.  And a black plastic cover protects the coins when being stored or can be flipped over for use as a base to display your coins.

Year Issued:  1978

Face Value:  $1.91

Mintage: 3,127,781
