Ford was sworn in as 38th President of the United States.  he ahd become the Vice President under Richard Nixon on December 6, 1973, after Spiro Agnew resigned the office.  The following August, Nixon resigned in the wake of the Watergate scandal.  Ford then became the first person to serve as US President without being elected as either President or Vice President.
