# AC558 FDC - 1/23/1986, US #2198-2201 Joint Issue w/Sweden #1585-87
First Day Cover Highlights US-Sweden Joint Issue Stamps
In 1986, the US issued a set of four Stamp Collecting stamps. Sweden issued four stamps with the same subject on the same day.
The four stamps were issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Philatelic Society. This was the first time that U.S. commemoratives were ever issued in booklet form. It is also interesting to note that this illustrates the 1986 Presidents Miniature Sheets. This was the first time that a U.S. stamp pictured another U.S. stamp that had not been issued.
First U.S. Commemorative Booklet
The booklet was born out of a friendly relationship between the US and Sweden’s postal departments. In 1938 and 1948 the US had issued stamps with Swedish themes – the tercentenary of the Swedish-Finnish settlement of Wilmington and the 100th anniversary of Swedish pioneers in the American West. Then in 1983, the US and Sweden worked together on a joint issue honoring the 200th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce.
