This cover marks the 20th anniversary of the recovery of the Discoverer 14 satellite. The cover is part of the Milestones of Flight Commemorative Series produced by teh Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum.
Launched on August 18, 1960, Discoverer 14 reentered the Earth's atmosphere the next day. An Air Force C-119 caught the spacecraft at it was descending, marking the first time a space object was successfully recovered in the air.
