Cover Marks National Postal Museum Day at Pacific 97
The ninth International Philatelic Exhibition held in the US took place May 29-June 8, 1997. Called Pacific 97, it was the first expo held on the West Coast. This cover was postmarked June 5, National Postal Museum Day and has an image of the museum, which is in Washington, DC.
Sixty days before the opening of the show, the US Postal Service issued two stamps promoting the event. They were America’s first triangular-shaped stamps. The one on this cover pictures a mid-19th century clipper ship, the other stamp shows a US mailcoach. Both of these were associated with mail delivery.
