Cover Celebrates Lake Placid Olympics

The 1980 Winter Olympic Games were held in Lake Placid, New York.  This cover was postmarked on the first day of the games at the Winter Olympics Station.  The stamp on the cover, US #1796, pictures a skier.  American skier, Phil Mahre, earned a silver medal in the men's slalom event.  This cover is a fitting commemorative of the 1980 Winter Games.
