The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe was established in 1947.  This set of stamps seeks to represent the variety of the environment that is our heritage.  The E.C.E. has worked to remedy air and water pollution and has adopted a Declaration of Conservation of Flora, Fauna and their Habitats to protect plant and animal species.  At all levels, the E.C.E. is leading the way in a world that only recently has become aware of how precious the environment is. Each se-tenant block portrays a different area.  The Vienna s5 set shows the lake region, with gently rolling hills and various plants and animals typical of the climate.
