 More About Burundi...

Burundi is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley region of Africa.  It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and southeast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Lake Tanganyika to the southwest.  Its capital cities are Gitega and Bujumbura.  Bujumbura is also Burundi's largest city.

Burundi was once part of Belgian-controlled Ruanda-Urundi and used postage stamps of that territory until gaining independence on July 1, 1962.  The first Kingdom of Burundi stamps were overprinted Ruanda-Urundi stamps.  A few years later, in 1966, the nation became a republic and issued stamps marked Republique du Burundi.  You'll enjoy discovering the 300 stamps in this collection today.
