Disney Pals Ride The General
In 1987 Gambia issued this fun souvenir sheet picturing The General. The General, a Confederate train, gained fame during the Civil War when it was hijacked by a Union spy and a group of volunteers. The Great Locomotive Chase followed, until The General ran out of fuel and the Union men captured. They were some of the first recipients of the Medal of Honor.
This stamp also commemorates Mickey's 60th anniversary. Since his debut in the short film Steamboat Willie in 1928, Mickey has become one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world.
