Experience the Civil War
As Seen by Real People

Here’s history you hold in your hands – genuine Civil War covers that were carefully preserved for nearly 150 years.  This offer is a great way to explore the war through the eyes of a real American or expand your specialized collection.  Selections vary.

Howell Cobb Correspondence

Amazing find – these scarce covers were sent after the Southern states seceded from the Union but before the war began.  Selections vary, but each is addressed to Howell Cobb, who was a U.S. congressman, governor of Georgia, Buchanan’s U.S. Treasury Secretary before becoming Speaker and President Pro Tempore of the Confederate Provisional Congress.  By virtue of the last position, Cobb was also the first President of the Confederacy until Davis was elected a few weeks later.
