About the Charles Schulz set:  Issued for Schulz’s 100th birth anniversary.  Includes 10 different stamp designs, each picturing a different PEANUTS character.  The center of the complete pane of 20 includes a black-and-white photograph of Schulz taken in 1987.

History the stamp represents:  Marcie can come across as deadpan because her eyes are hidden behind glasses.  But she’s as kind and loyal as they come, especially to her best friend and total opposite, Peppermint Patty.  A true “indoor kid,” she’d much rather finish all her summer reading or attend a Tiny Tots concert than fumble through a game of football.

Marcie is a people pleaser.  She appeals to her parents and teachers by studying hard.  She appeals to Peppermint Patty (whom she calls “sir”) by providing her test answers and trying repeatedly to play football despite having zero athletic ability.  All that people pleasing exhausts her, though, which causes her to lose her temper in rare but significant moments and snap at friends occasionally.  In spite of this, she remains a loyal friend, virtually inseparable from Peppermint Patty.

Like Peppermint Patty, Marcie has a crush on Charlie Brown, but is less aggressive then her friend.  She would much rather send Charlie Brown (whom she calls “Charles”) letters from camp than call him on the phone.  Charlie Brown never knows how to respond to her advances.  While she and Snoopy aren’t particularly close, Marcie is happy to play along with his Flying Ace as the beret-wearing French lass.
