About the Go Beyond set:  Four different stamp designs were issued to coincide with the 2022 release of the movie, Lightyear, starring everyone’s favorite space ranger, Buzz Lightyear.  Each stamp pictures Buzz in a different pose.  All artwork provided by Pixar Animation Studios.  The selvage of the pane of 20 includes a full-body view of Buzz and his iconic green and silver space suit.

History the stamp represents:  Buzz Lightyear takes on a number of different roles throughout the course of the Toy Story movies.  He also develops close relationships with lots of other characters, both in Andy’s room and out.

At the beginning of Toy Story, Buzz is having an identity crisis and doesn’t realize he’s actually a toy.  But, by the end of the movie, he has become friends with all the toys of Andy’s room, and best friends with Woody.  Along the way, he also served as a mentor to several of the others.  For example, he helped Rex the dinosaur learn to roar for the first time.

In Toy Story 2, Woody is suddenly kidnapped, and the other toys look to Buzz to act as leader in his absence.  Once they rescue Woody and new friends, Jessie and Bullseye, Woody becomes leader again, with Buzz serving as his second-in-command.  In Toy Story 3, Buzz once again serves as leader in Woody’s absence and begins to experience romantic feelings for Jessie.  He befriends the many toys at Sunnyside Daycare and later helps them make it a better place for all toys.

Finally, in Toy Story 4, Woody leaves for good to stay with his long-lost love.  Buzz comes full circle and becomes the permanent leader of the other toys.  It’s fun to watch the growth of one of Pixar’s most iconic and beloved characters.
