Known as the barn artist, Scott Hagan got his start painting on barns in 1997.  He was asked by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission to paint the Ohio logo on 88 barns (one in each county of Ohio) for the upcoming state bicentennial in 2004.  The commission thought the barn art would be a unique advertisement and drum up excitement for the upcoming event.

Before being asked to do the Ohio logo, the only barn he had ever painted was his father's.  He used the side of the barn to paint a large Ohio State Buckeye logo, just to see if he could do a large piece of artwork.  When the Ohio Bicentennial Commission saw this, they knew Hagan was the right man for the job at just 21 years old.

According to Hagan, a barn painting usually takes three days from start to finish depending on the surface and what kind of pretreatment is needed.  Although he never thought he would make a career out of painting barns, he enjoys painting and is happy that the work keeps coming in.  In the colder months, he does work inside, usually doing large artwork inside schools.

Over 20 years later and Hagan is still at it.  As of 2022, he'd painted roughly 400 barns in 21 states.  He hoped to paint barns in all 50 states before retiring.
