About the Sesame Street set:  In 2019, Sesame Street – everyone’s favorite educational and playful children’s television show – celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To commemorate the occasion, the USPS issued 16 new Forever stamps picturing different characters from the show:  Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe.  The back of the pane of 16 pictures the official Sesame Street 50th anniversary artwork.

History the stamp represents:  A Sesame Street resident since 1979, Telly Monster is an intense and earnest monster who worries over everything.  He often needs help from his friends to cope with strong emotions like anxiety and frustration.  When he practices strategies to calm down, he can focus, show greater self-confidence, and persist at any task.

Telly’s favorite shape is the triangle, and one of his favorite activities is bouncing around on his pogo stick.  Though he sometimes loses control and disrupts the other residents of Sesame Street, Telly is very musical, playing the bassoon, the tuba, and of course, the triangle.  Telly is also very fond of his favorite doll, Freddy.

Telly has often worked as a roving reporter in his own segment, “Monster on the Spot,” reporting on the news of Sesame Street in his signature hat and tie.  He also enjoys doing segments with Oscar the Grouch, particularly “Ask Oscar,” and “Sneak Peek Previews.”  Telly is a member of Oscar’s fan club, the Grouchketeers.  Telly loves to play with his best friend, Baby Bear.  Through this relationship, young viewers see that friendships have ups and downs and can sometimes require work.

An excitable and emotional monster, Telly is a dedicated friend to all his pals on Sesame Street.
