About the Sesame Street set:  In 2019, Sesame Street – everyone’s favorite educational and playful children’s television show – celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To commemorate the occasion, the USPS issued 16 new Forever stamps picturing different characters from the show:  Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe.  The back of the pane of 16 pictures the official Sesame Street 50th anniversary artwork.

History the stamp represents:  One of the most unusual characters on Sesame Street is Mr. Snuffleupagus.  He is big and furry with four legs, a tail that trails behind him, and a long trunk-like “snuffle” for a nose.  His full name is Aloysius Snuffleupagus, but most people just call him Snuffy.

Snuffy loves playing with his best friend Big Bird.  They share many adventures as they help each other make sense of their world.  Like most four-year-old children, Snuffy is still learning how to cope with simple things, and his first impulse is often to give up.  But after some encouragement from his feathered friend and their other neighbors, he usually finds solutions to his problems.  Snuffy reminds everyone that they can do anything as long as they try hard and never give up.

At first, the only character on Sesame Street who saw Snuffy was Big Bird.  In fact, it soon became Big Bird’s mission to prove Snuffy was not his imaginary friend, but his real friend.  Finally, Big Bird decided to invite everyone on Sesame Street to his nest to introduce Snuffy.  However, as usual, they just missed him.  Big Bird tried again, this time with Elmo staying behind to keep Snuffy from leaving.  At last, everyone saw that Snuffy was real and apologized to Big Bird.  Snuffy has been a beloved friend to all from that moment on.
