About the Sesame Street set:  In 2019, Sesame Street – everyone’s favorite educational and playful children’s television show – celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To commemorate the occasion, the USPS issued 16 new Forever stamps picturing different characters from the show:  Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe.  The back of the pane of 16 pictures the official Sesame Street 50th anniversary artwork.

History the stamp represents:  In 2006, fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby (a play on “Abracadabra”) moved to Sesame Street.  The daughter of the Fairy Godmother, she’s an imaginative and playful three year old who is eager to discover new things about the world.

Abby finds magic in everyday preschool activities such as exploring the plants and bugs in her garden, reading fairy tales, and dressing up in her many outfits.  What she finds truly amazing and magical is what she learns on Sesame Street, like new words that rhyme, or how to draw letters with a crayon.  When she finds something really impressive, she exclaims, “That’s so magical!”

Abby is excited to try new things, especially exotic foods, and she often invites her friends Elmo and Rosita along on her adventures.  In her “Abby’s Flying Fairy School” segments, she models problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking.  She can speak Butterfly and Puppydog and is teaching Rosita Dragonfly, while Rosita teaches her Spanish.

Among Abby’s magical powers are floating when she’s happy, turning things into pumpkins, and “poofing” in and out of thin air.  When casting a spell, she sometimes says “Zippity-zap.”

Abby is a confident and creative young learner who’s joy for everyday life is infectious.
