2016 World Stamp Show

International stamp exhibitions allow collectors to mingle, learn, and celebrate their shared love of philately.  These shows are a mecca for collectors of all ages and experience levels.  Once each decade, an international stamp show is held in the U.S.

Hosting an event of this magnitude requires coordination between several international organizations, and planning often takes the full ten-year interval to complete.

World Stamp Show-NY 2016 is being held under the patronage of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie, which is the world federation for philately based in Zurich, Switzerland.  The American Philatelic Society is the show sponsor, receiving assistance from the Collectors Club of New York.

The United States Postal Service is a major supporter of the show.  It plans several First Day of Issue ceremonies during the event.  The United Nations Postal Administration will also be present, along with about 60 international postal organizations.

Approximately 250 volunteers from all areas of philately have worked alongside these agencies to ensure the success of World Stamp Show-NY 2016.  Such widespread volunteer involvement reveals the dedication of collectors to their hobby – a hobby that is openly shared and beloved by many.

Michael Dyer and art director Antonio Alcalá designed the 2016 World Stamp Show stamps.  The intricate pattern on each stamp is meant to resemble classic 19th-century engraved stamps and banknotes.  The top of the mint sheet reads “Join us for a Wonderful Week at World Stamp Show – NY 2016,” while the text on the back of the sheet has details about the show.
