First-Class Mail
The From Me to You stamp was issued for National Card and Letter Writing Month. The selvage on the pane of 20 has labels and decals for decorating envelopes and letters. This was the first time in U.S. history stickers were included with stamps.
For centuries, people have been recording their life experiences in writing. Travelers recount their adventures... soldiers write home of wartime trials... lovebirds pour their hearts out on paper. By card, letter, and note, accomplishments are congratulated, losses mourned, and milestones celebrated. But the traditional art of letter writing is slowly disappearing in the shadow of today’s modern technology.
In an era full of text messages and email, correspondence has become more immediate and efficient than ever. But modern forms of communication are easily deleted in cyberspace, while cards and letters remain timeless and tangible.
As time passes, these written accounts become permanent reminders of days gone by. An old letter provides a window to when it was drafted – a glimpse at a memory and moment in time. It offers a picture of the past, preserving our history and contributing to better understanding for the future.

Michael Osborne designed this stamp using bright jewel tones and primary colors. He was also the artist behind the 2013 Where Dreams Blossom (U.S. #4764) and Yes, I Do stamps (#4765), as well as the 2002 Love and 2006 Wedding stamps.
