U.S. #4469
44¢ Archie
Sunday Funnies

Issue Date: July 16, 2010
City: Columbus, OH

It only takes a pretty girl to turn Archie Andrews into a dreamy-eyed, mumbling goof. But with rich socialite Veronica and pretty girl-next-door Betty constantly competing for his affections, Archie is always stuck. That innocent high school love triangle is the core of Archie & Friends comic book, created by John Goldwater in 1941.

Archie lives in Riverdale, a suburban town in Middle America. He is a good-natured boy with red hair and freckles, forever in 11th grade. Archie likes sports, cars, playing in a band, and girls, girls, girls! His best friend Jughead is lazy but clever, and possesses an astounding appetite. With Betty and Veronica, the friends find the kinds of adventure seen in any mid-sized town – at shopping malls, school dances, or Pop Tate’s soda shop.

Although there are plenty of rivalries, harmless pranks, and high school trouble, the friends all care about each other and stay close. Close, that is, until the day when Archie has to choose between Betty and Veronica! That day arrived in 2009 – or so fans thought – when Archie proposed to Veronica. But order was restored to Riverdale when it proved to be just one side of an alternate future, with another story line showing marriage to Betty. Fans were happy to see the eternal puppy-love triangle continue.
