Split-back mounts are the most secure mounts for stamps, plus they’re easy to use. The mounts have welds at the top and bottom and are split on the back to put your stamp in. To insert your stamp, locate the split on the black background side. Lift a flap and gently slide the stamp in face down. Then lift the other flap and lay the stamp flat inside. Close both flaps over the back of the stamp. Make sure the stamp fits smoothly inside. Lightly moisten the adhesive on the top of the back of the mount and firmly press it onto your album page. (Don’t wet the entire back because moisture may enter the mount and damage your stamp.)
If a pre-cut mount doesn’t exist for the size of your particular stamp, you may need to buy strip mounts. Strips save you money over single mounts and are useful for stamps of the same heights but different widths. Cutting is easy using a device known as a guillotine. We do not recommend using scissors as mounts tend to be too slippery.
