In honor of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birth anniversary, the US Mint released a Silver Proof dollar.  It's made of 90% silver, free of scratches and has never been circulated.  The coin was struck at least twice, giving Lincoln’s portrait crisp, impressive detail complemented by a mirror-like background.  The front side shows Lincoln’s portrait from his statue at the Lincoln Memorial, while the back quotes a portion of the Gettysburg Address.  The Lincoln Proof Coin is scarce – just 325,000 were minted!

 

The US Mint also released four new commemorative pennies.  Each of the four pennies represented a different major aspect of Lincoln's life. These coins featured the usual Lincoln portrait on the front with new designs on the reverse.
