A U.S. Postal First
In 2008, the US Postal Service introduced the first set – including this Alaska stamp – in a groundbreaking new series called “Flags of Our Nation.” The stamps are a US postal “first.” They have the beauty and historic significance of commemorative stamps, but were issued as se-tenant (face-different attached) definitive coil stamps. Millions of these stamps were sold, and some were applied to First Day Covers. But only a very small number were attached to Coin First Day Covers with the pictorial cancellations. Because so few stamps were used in this way, this cover is truly a “limited edition.”
