Constitution Bicentennial Cover Honors First Postmaster General

Own this cover commemorating the appointment of Samuel Osgood as the first Postmaster General under the new constitution.  On September 22, 1789, Congress established a national postal system based on the system established by Ben Franklin before America achieved its independence.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, postmark pays tribute to the location of the first central office of Franklin’s postal system.  The cover features a Franklin, 1st US Postmaster stamp (1690), from the Liberty Series, and a Flag and Clouds stamp (2285A).
