Own this cover picturing Jacob Broom (1752-1810). The Flag over Independence Hall stamp is tied to the cover with a Wilmington, Delaware, postmark. Broom spent his life in that city. The date on the postmark represents the 168th anniversary of his death.
Broom represented Delaware at the Constitutional Convention. He was a supporter of a strong federal government. After the convention, he returned to Wilmington to pursue business and became the city’s first postmaster.
