Issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the settlement of Maryland by the second Lord Baltimore, Cecilius Calvert.  Calvert and some 200 colonists (including two Jesuit priests) established the first colony with religious freedom. The charter, granted by Charles I in 1632, allowed for the establishment of churches that were not Protestant.
