In 1932, twelve stamps were issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washingtons birth. Each stamp features a different portrait of Washington, all based on famous sculptures. The 8¢ denomination was taken from a profile bust portrait of Washington facing left, reproduced from a crayon drawing made from life by Charles B.J. Saint Memin at Philadelphia in 1798.
