This stamp featured the 5th of Charles W. Peale paintings to be used in the George Washington Bicentennial Series. Peale made 14 known paintings of Washington, with this being the last. Washington posed for both Peale and Peales 17-year-old son, Rembrandt Peale. The younger Peale went on to have a successful career as an artist.
