$1.50 - $9.25
684-87
1930 Rotary Press Stamps
The Harding stamps (#684 and 686) replaced the previous 1½¢ Harding stamp. The full-face image was thought to be more flattering to Harding than the profile view. The frame was also changed to match those of other stamps in the Series of 1922-35.
U.S. # 685 and 687 picture U.S. President William Howard Taft. The stamp was issued four months after his death. The Post Office Department announced it would be released on his birthdate and in his hometown. The vignette shows Taft in the judicial robe he wore as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The 4¢ Taft stamp was the only one in the Series of 1922-35 printed only on a rotary press, never on a flat plate press.
