Why the stamps were issued: To commemorate winter and all the fun, snowy activities the season brings.
About the stamp designs: Each stamp picture’s a different snowflake-like graphic against a dark blue, aquamarine, pale gray, or dark green background. The designs were created by artist Bailey Sullivan.
First Day City: The First Day City for these stamps was Park City, Utah, a destination known for its fun and exciting winter activities. There was no official First Day of Issue Ceremony in Park City.
History the stamps represent: Winter brings plenty of snow, ice, and cold temperatures to our doorsteps. But, it also brings opportunities for fun that we can only enjoy in those conditions. There are plenty of great places in the US to enjoy winter – like Park City, Utah.
Park City is a popular vacation destination throughout the year, but during the winter it hosts the largest ski area in the country. Skiers and snowboarders from across the globe flock to Park City to get a taste of its 300+ trails on thousands of acres. However, there are plenty of other winter activities to enjoy, too.
For active outdoorsmen and women, Park City has groomed cross-country ski and snowshoeing trails. There are also several national parks nearby with traditional hiking opportunities, although you may need special equipment to handle winter conditions.
If you prefer to relax on vacation, Park City has plenty of shopping and sightseeing, too. You can explore a huge ice castle complete with hand-placed icicles, take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the countryside, or hop on a dogsled and enjoy traditional travel through the mountains. However you choose to enjoy winter in Park City, you’ll make plenty of joyful memories to look back on for years to come.
