History the stamp represents: Love Buttons, a nonprofit organization, was originally founded in 2013 “to put more love into the world.” It is the founders’ belief that small acts of kindness and love, especially toward strangers, can help transform our world for the better.
It all began in 1997, when Dr. Habib Sadeghi was a medical student. After receiving a cancer diagnosis, he felt lost. The kind words of a friend gave him peace and made him believe he would be ok: “He who hasn’t loved yet hasn’t known God, for God is love.”
Those words stayed with him for years. Thinking about it one day, he wrote “Love” on a piece of paper and made it into the first Love Button. Patients asked him about the pin, which led him to wonder if others had such a pin, if it might encourage them to spread love in their communities. If enough people did, maybe they could change the world.
Love Buttons was founded on the belief that the world’s problems are not impossible. They are due to a lack of love. A key step is to offer an act of loving kindness first, inspiring one to pay it forward. By giving out free Love Buttons, individuals and organizations can spread joy, love, and awareness.
As of 2024, the Love Button Global Movement has distributed over 15 million buttons and supported more than 325 organizations.
