About the Dungeons & Dragons set: 10 Forever stamps issued for the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. They picture 10 different designs showcasing characters, creatures, and encounters from Dungeons & Dragons. The selvage of the pane of 20 pictures a party of adventurers fighting a dragon, a gold 20-sided die (d20), and an example of a Dungeons & Dragons map.
History the stamp represents: One of the many reasons people love playing Dungeons & Dragons is they can play as a character with the ability to use magic. After all, who wouldn’t want to be able to wave their hand and have something amazing happen?
There are many different classes that can use magic in Dungeons & Dragons. The main ones that primarily rely on spellcasting are sorcerer, warlock, bard, cleric, druid, and wizard. Each has a list of spells they can learn and cast, with a small amount of overlap between classes. Spellcasters can be quite powerful, but the system is balanced to allow a fair chance for melee-based fighters. For example, most spellcasters cannot wear heavy armor and they usually have fewer hit (health) points.
Like most attacks, spellcasters must roll a d20 (20-sided die) to determine if they hit their target. Roll below a certain number, and you miss. However, there are some spells that hit automatically. One of the most famous is called magic missile. As the caster gains experience and levels up, the spell can target more than one enemy per attack. Despite the fact that magic missile does less damage than other magical attacks, its guaranteed hit has made it a must-have in many spellcasters’ arsenals – especially when facing larger groups of enemies.
