About the Snow Globes set:  Includes four different designs picturing oil paintings by Gregory Manchess.  Each stamp pictures a snow globe with a different holiday symbol inside:  a snowman, Santa Claus, a deer, and a Christmas tree.

History the stamp represents:  From the time they were invented, snow globes have been popular collector’s items.  Valued for their craftsmanship, rarity, and nostalgia, they are collected by people from all walks of life.

While some may collect a few with themes they like, others have massive collections of thousands of snow globes.  A woman in China holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection.  When it was witnessed for the record in 2016, she had 4,059 snow globes.  She says she spent about $165,000 over the years, with the most expensive being a $9,900 globe designed by Louis Vuitton.

A collector in California also claims to have the most, with more than 11,500 snow globes.  Among the rarities in his collection is one of the first snow gloves ever created for the 1889 Paris Exposition, valued at $20,000.

Other valuable globes include some made with crystal domes or with diamond snow flakes.  Early Disney snow globes are some of the rarest.

At the Snow Globe Museum in Austria, visitors can tour the factory where the first snow globes were made and see replicas of rare and famous globes.  Japan also has a snow globe museum where visitors can make their own snow globes, creating their own souvenirs.
