Why the stamps were issued: To provide complementary stamps for letters and cards sent to friends and loved ones.
About the stamp design: Each design pictures delightful images of flowers, balloons, adorable animals, tasty desserts, symbols of good luck, and more. Each is a digital illustration with a bright, cheery color palette.
Special design details: The stamp sheet includes words of encouragement and affirmations surrounding the pane of stamps. These words are die-cut and self-adhesive, so they can be removed from the sheet and used on the envelope in addition to the stamps themselves.

History the stamp represents: Letter writing was a huge part of life in the 18th century. Besides conducting business, people wrote to one another to keep in touch and share news. Though the world has come a long way in the area of communication, letters are still important and cherished to this day.
One of the best things about handwritten letters in the mail is they can be a rare surprise. Emails and text messages have their place in day-to-day lives, but sometimes the neatly lined text leaves interpretation up to the reader. Written letters take the reader to the point of view of the writer. There’s so much conveyed through furious script, double underlines, or crossed out words. It’s hard to imagine an email printed and saved to be re-read until its edges are worn. Or tied up with ribbons to be passed down for future generations.
In 2023, the USPS issued Thinking of You stamps to make receiving a letter more fun than ever. These fun, light-hearted stamps are printed with die-cut stickers in the margin of the stamp sheet. Issued in a pane of 20, the five stamps picture flowers, balloons, cute animals, and other feel-good imagery to brighten someone’s day. They remind Americans there is no better time than right now to send a letter “just because.”
