About the Waterfalls set: The USPS issued the 2023 Waterfalls set to showcase a small handful of the 17,000 documented waterfalls in America. Each one has something special about it that draws visitors from all walks of life to witness its natural beauty and power. These stamps include small, lesser-known waterfalls like Sunbeam Falls in Washington State as well as huge, worldwide attractions like Niagara Falls in New York.
Here's a complete list of the waterfalls pictured in the set:
a) Deer Creek Falls, Arizona
b) Nevada Fall, California

g) Niagara Falls, New York
h) Dark Hollow Falls, Virginia
i) Grotto Falls, Tennessee
j) Sunbeam Falls, Washington
k) LaSalle Canyon Waterfall, Illinois
l) Upper Falls, North Carolina
History the stamp represents: Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is home to countless natural wonders, including geysers, unusual rock formations, colorful geothermal pools, and more. It also hosts several stunning waterfalls, the most famous being the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. In fact, it was mentioned in many explorer’s journals of the 1800s. N.P. Langford, a member of the 1870 Washburn party, said “Without hesitation I would say that the Lower Falls is by far my favorite waterfall in Yellowstone. Lower Falls is both breath-taking and beautiful as well as extremely powerful and commands a great amount of respect.”
The path Yellowstone River takes through the national park is what creates the major waterfalls known as Lower and Upper Falls. These falls were created as the Yellowstone River eroded the soft rock over hundreds of thousands of years. Lower Falls is the largest, with a drop of 308 feet, almost twice that of world-famous Niagara Falls. However, the waterflow of Lower Yellowstone Falls is much less as the river is just 70 feet wide at the crest of the falls.
Lower Yellowstone Falls is one of the most striking features of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. It can be easily viewed from Inspiration Point, Grandview Point, Lookout Point, and other overlooks. The falls and river are reminders of the power and beauty of flowing water.
