About the Charles Schulz set:  Issued for Schulz’s 100th birth anniversary.  Includes 10 different stamp designs, each picturing a different PEANUTS character.  The center of the complete pane of 20 includes a black-and-white photograph of Schulz taken in 1987.

History the stamp represents:  Schroeder is devoted to music, always improving his craft and aspiring to the greatness of his idol, Ludwig Van Beethoven.  Schroeder has fans of his own, too:  Snoopy and Lucy both like to perch at his piano.  When he’s not playing a sonata at his toy keyboard, he’s out behind home plate as Charlie Brown’s catcher.

Schroeder needs to make music.  He enjoys educating folks about classical music and believes Beethoven’s birthday should be a national holiday.  He places his need to play music above all else.  In any sticky situation, his immediate concern is for the welfare of his piano.

Sometimes the music Schroeder plays takes on a life of its own.  The staff and musical notes often appear above him and Snoopy is the one character who interacts with the symbols.

Schroeder is Charlie Brown’s second best friend, after Linus.  Lucy is particularly fond of Schroeder and spends countless hours leaning on his piano, dreaming about their married lives together.  Schroeder has no interest in such a life, and often finds her presence to be annoying.  However, when Lucy and Linus briefly moved away, he admitted that he had become “accustomed to THAT face.”
