About the Charles Schulz set:  Issued for Schulz’s 100th birth anniversary.  Includes 10 different stamp designs, each picturing a different PEANUTS character.  The center of the complete pane of 20 includes a black-and-white photograph of Schulz taken in 1987.

History the stamp represents:  Franklin lives in Peppermint Patty’s neighborhood and plays center field on her baseball team.  Even though he finds Charlie Brown’s friends a little strange, he takes it all in stride with his usual tact.

Charlie Brown first met Franklin at the beach in 1968.  Franklin helped Charlie Brown rebuild his crooked sand castle and they became quick friends after that.  When Charlie Brown invited him to visit his neighborhood, Franklin was confused by the other kids’ hijinks, but was happy to be part of the gang.

Franklin is an “A” student and a deep thinker.  He enjoys spending time with Charlie Brown and Linus discussing philosophical issues or conversations they’ve had with their grandfathers.  Despite his level-headed nature, Franklin is occasionally overwhelmed by his responsibilities and his extracurricular activities.  However, he has fewer anxieties and obsessions than the rest of the Peanuts gang.

Franklin is outgoing, participating in swim club, Little League, and 4H Club.  He is also a good dancer and takes guitar lessons, too.  Franklin hopes to one day be a professional hockey player.  He proves himself to be a good friend and is well-liked for offering his objective view on everyone’s antics.
