The largest statue ever made, "Liberty Enlightening the World," was given to the U.S. by France as a gift of friendship. Commonly referred to as the Statue of Liberty, she represents the freedom citizens enjoy under a democratic government. The statue, which stands on Liberty Island overlooking New York Harbor, has greeted thousands of immigrants and has given them hope as they began their new lives in America.
